Adding total in the Accounts dashboard

I am not sure I understand what you mean by "dashboard". But if that you 
mean the view of accounts, this is a matter of how you set up your chart 
of accounts.

For example, "assets" are of two general types, "fixed assets" (like 
real property) and "current assets" which are liquid cash assets like 
your checking and savings accounts.

So ...... if you create a place holder account called "current assets" 
under assets and then make "checking" and "savings" both children of 
this parent, the total of checking and savings will show as the balance 
of this "current assets" account.

That what you want?
