The alternative was having a program that would fail to re-load data it
had saved.

I still don't understand what "splits issue" this is.

Probably just you -- once you get one transaction entered it's really
simple to create a new one with the same generaly structure but
different numbers.

Probably not on this list.  I suspect we're all here because GnuCash is
the best option out there.  Of course you're always welcome to pay the
Intuit Tax for Quicken or Quickbooks.
