Version 2.6.3 won't save when there are open Reports

I still think you've got remnants of an old gnucash installation here.

How about this:

* remove all gnucash packages from the package manager
* find /usr /var -name \*gnc\* -o -name \*gnucash\*

See if that find gives you anything at all?
