Shared data file on Google Drive - change in behavior

I'm working with my son in another city and we set up a shared database in
Google Drive. We're both using GnuCash 2.6.3 on Laptops, me on Win7 64-bit
and him on Win8. For several days we interacted successfully observing that
only one could work on the file at a time. Either of us could make changes
and save the file and quit. The other of us could then open GnuCash and see
all the changes.
A couple days ago when I tried to access the same file GnuCash
automatically opened a file from two days prior. When I tried navigating
to the shared file on Google Drive from within GnuCash I can see all the
.log files and any .LCK files but not the current .gnucash file. I can see
all of these on Google Drive.
I can't identify any change in our procedures from one day to the next. It
worked just fine for several days and then this hiccup occurred.
Could someone recommend a way to restore normal behavior?
Thanks,
