In addition to the things recommended already, I also have a line in my
".gtkrc-2.0.gnucash" file which I think of as a "global" setting:

gtk-font-name = "Lucida Grande 12"

I don't know if this would conflict with the previous suggestions, but
suspect that it becomes a kind of "default" setting that may overwritten by
further settings, etc.
