Richard,
The fact that price quotes stopped working after you updated gnucash is
a coincidence. Just today yahoo seems to have changed its price
retrieval interface (again), which break price retrieval in gnucash and
other programs that depend on the finance-quote package. I have already
suggested to other people to contact the finance-quote maintainers to
check into this. If you wish to contact them as well, their bug tracker
