I am VERY glad my suggestion helped!

As for an explanation of what these commands do, they are "standard" Debian
/ Ubuntu package manager commands. You can probably accomplish the same
using a a package manager such as aptitude or synaptics, though as you said
in another message it's easier to explain the command line interface.

$ man apt-get

is a good place to start. (I wrote several paragraphs of explanation but, I
just deleted them... because this is the GnuCash list, and the help is
already on your system!

I realized you might not understand what "apt" is. Try these commands, too,
just for educational purposes:

$ man apt
$ apropos apt
$ man apropos

:-)

I taught myself a lot sitting in front of a DEC Ultrix workstation for
several weeks in 1990. Since I don't use the commands every day I often
forget most of the details, but man and apropos are always just a few
keystrokes away! (Nowadays Google searches are an even more efficient
complement to the online help.)
