Split gnucash sqlite database

I'd certainly be interested in testing out a script that was able to do this.
I'd like to be able to remove old transactions. How would you handle things
like stocks? Would it be possible to select which accounts to process so
that, for example, you could keep all stock transactions but remove old cash
ones?
