David,

Derek's solution seems to work well.

The principle is that the account relationship is only able to store one 
OFX reference.
If that place is overwritten with a dummy, then the desired OFX 
reference is recognised as new, and can be assigned to any account the 
user chooses.

An excellent solution, with no side effects as far as I can  see.
