Quotes & Invoices

Hello,
I was just chatting with Derek about one feature missing in GC - quoting system...
At the moment I use one web app (PHP/MySql) for generating quotes and
invoices as well as producing PDF output for emailing/posting to the
clients. However, it's the only need I have to keeping PHP & MySql on
my (Free/PC-BSD) desktop, so I'd like to get rid of it considering
that:
1) the app is mostly one-man show and therefore a bit risky to depend
on it
2) I already use GC for keeping all my family's financial records as
well as accounting of my small company.
I've also researched about some other non-PHP options and there are
some half-baked python/django apps, tryton (probably an overkill for
our needs), (h)ledger-cli, ormode's org-invoice etc. but they are
either too complicater or have much more missing features than GC.
Moreover, while chatting with warlord he mentioned: "(alas, there
isn't a "quote" system in GnuCash -- I started on one but never
finished it), so I'm sure not being the single person which would be
very happy to see "quote system" implememented in GC since there are
already full-fledged invoicing features available and together they
would make GC very much business complete.
Therefore, I'm hoping that 'quote system' feature would not go against
the spirit of GC and suggest to try to revive that unfinished work of
Derek.
If there is some interest for the feature, we can try to even make a
bounty for anyone enthusiastic and capable to spend time on it.
It was long ago when I was writing C, but, at least, I am ready to
offer help according to my skill to test etc.
Anyone?
Sincerely,
Gour
