GetDeb shows 2.6.3 http://www.getdeb.net/updates/Ubuntu/14.04/?q=gnucash
Did you RUN the getdeb installer (not download the package)? See
instructions at http://www.getdeb.net/updates/ubuntu/14.04/#how_to_install
The GetDeb installer adds the getdeb repository to your system (which I
suggest you might want to deactivate in the Software Center preferences
when you're through installing GnuCash).
SO 1) Add the GetDeb repository 2) Refresh the package listing (Software
Center does this automatically) 3) Install GnuCash. 4) (optional) disable
GetDeb in Software Sources (so you don't update any other packages with the
GetDeb version).
I was going to suggest that if you don't want to add the GetDeb repository,
you could go to the GetDeb repository and manually download the three
GnuCash packages and install them on your system, HOWEVER it looks to me as
if the GetDeb maintainers discourage using their repository that way.
