I know it doesn't help the OP's current problem, but for anyone else
reading this the moral is that part of setting up a backup strategy is
to confirm that one can restore critical data from the backup.  So
anyone who has not recently done it should go to their backup and make
sure they can find their gnucash data file (and any other important
information they believe have backed up) and make sure they can open
it ok.

For the OP, however, your post above suggests that you are searching
your restored system for the backup file.  Should you not be searching
your backup?
