Restore backup

I was going to offer one more post saying what Colin said. I seem to have
lost my data and wish I had tried finding and restoring my backup files
before I lost them. My mistake was that I thought copying my documents onto
a flash drive would probably take care of it but just in case I would have
the "agents" at Best Buy's Geek Squad back up also since they are way more
knowledgeable than I am. My backup for my backup was supposed to Carbonite.
I don't know what failed, but I don't find anything but .gnucash.gcm files
in any of the locations. As I rebuild my books I will DEFINITELY practice
backing up and restoring and encourage anyone else to do the same.
Thank you all,
Chuck

hello all
I receive an invoice each month, detailing the amounts collected on my
behalf, and the commission deducted. The balance is then paid into my bank
account.
For VAT reasons, I cannot just enter the nett amount into the ledger.
How can I deal with the transaction? The amounts collected to into
Income:Sales, and the nett amount into the current account.
Would it be best to set up an account (in the agency's name) as an asset
within the ledger, then enter the transactions thus:
Income: sales ?7500.00
Commission $1500.00 Current account ?6000.00

I know it doesn't help the OP's current problem, but for anyone else reading
this the moral is that part of setting up a backup strategy is to confirm
that one can restore critical data from the backup. So anyone who has not
recently done it should go to their backup and make sure they can find their
gnucash data file (and any other important information they believe have
backed up) and make sure they can open it ok.
For the OP, however, your post above suggests that you are searching your
restored system for the backup file. Should you not be searching your
backup?

Yes, except I believe the commission should be an expense account not an
asset.

Thanks, Colin.
I should have made that more clear, there is an Expense:commision account
already and, of course, a current account as an asset.
Thanks so much for your advice.

Hi,
On 7th October, Laurence Nagel wrote this in reply to a similar question
from Robyn Stratford posted to the list on 6th October:
<SNIP>
To answer your question, GnuCash moved to Windows 10 flawlessly and I have
experienced no problems.
<SNAP>
I have no first hand knowledge of GC on Win10, and fully expect that YMMV.

Hi all,I switched to Win-10, a couple weeks ago and so far GNU-Cash works
flawlessly.
I don't see a difference from before; so good news overall.
:)Note: I did a clean install of Win-10 then re-installed GNU Cash. I don't
know if doing a 'live' upgrade to Win-10 would yield the same results, but I
think it should be no difference.
