Stock split not working?

I'm trying to do a stock merger with a NASDAQ stock, using the Stock
Split Assistant. The Assistant provides the correct displays (according
to the Manual), but the resulting entry shows only the number of shares
reduced under Total Shares and Total Credit in the summary line. The
Balance column is blank. In the single detail line, only the number of
shares reduced appears. All other fields are blank. Entering the share
price appears to have no effect beyond adding an entry in the Price
Editor for that stock. In the Accounts listing, the total shares field
is blank. It may not help that most of my stocks are Canadian, and this
NASDAQ stock is in US funds, but it is hard to imagine how that would
impact this situation. Gnucash version is 2.6.4 on Debian jessy.
Any ideas?
Thank you
Cam
