Cannot read font in Gnucash 2.6.9

Macintosh OSX El Capitan
I can't read the text in the new version even with reading glasses and the resolution on my monitor enlarged.
Does GnuCash hate old people?
I know nothing of programming or scripts and don't understand the little bit of information I have been able to search on it.
I can't even find the files they mentioned on my computer.
How far back do I need to degrade to get back to a usable program?
Will I still be able to open my file?
Thanks in advance,Donna32132

Hi, I am using GnuCash since 2009 and I am still very happy with it and how
it evolved. At the moment I am running 2.6.4 on debian 8.2.
I have this issue with entering transactions in foreign currencies and I
have posted this
http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/Bug-Trading-accounts-wrong-currency-amount-td4671281.html
a while ago but couldn't resolve it fully and just let it go for a while.
As I want to clean up my system I have run the check & repair full and the
results are many imbalances in the trading accounts. I try to explain it as
clear as possible (I am not native English speaking, so please be patient).
Following example shows one transaction with the imbalance problem. The base
currency is JPY and the account currency is AUD (The transactions date back
to 2009 until mid 2011, after this no problems).
1) Before check & repair:
Assets:Savings          735.97
Trading:Currency:JPY  60.774
Revenues:Interest:JPY          60.774
Trading:Currency:AUD          735.97

2) After check & repair:
Assets:Savings          735.97
Trading:Currency:JPY  60.774
Imbalance-AUD          4.969.024.12
Revenues:Interest:JPY          60.774
Trading:Currency:AUD          4.969.024.12

I then tried to edit the Trading:Currency:AUD amount to 735.97 and deleted
the Imbalance: AUD transaction. After hitting enter I am getting the same
result again as shown in 2).

How can I make this transactions balanced? Any help would be very much
appreciated.

Thank you!

New user warning: I've searched the documentation I downloaded this
week, and I've done a Google search of the mailing list archives, and
cannot find an answer to this question.  If it has been asked and
answered before, or if I've missed it in the documentation, please excuse.

I understand the Accounts Receivable setup used in GnuCash, and it's
very workable for sales where we send out an invoice and get payment
some time later.

But when we sell something through the Internet (payment by credit card
or PayPal), we effectively receive payment immediately. There is no
receivable from the customer.  We should be able to post the Payment
from a Customer as a transaction posting to an Income account (Sales
Revenue) and an Asset account (PayPal), without any reference to an
invoice.

Is there a method of doing so?

Alternately, I've seen systems where entry of such a transaction will
automatically create an invoice based on the entered transaction.
Effectively the transaction we would enter (Revenue to PayPal) would be
automatically split into two transactions: Revenue to Customer A/R, and
Customer A/R to PayPal. Is that available if a direct posting is not?

Thank you for any and all guidance.

Robert Menschel

Hi,

I'm using GC 2.6.1, Ubuntu 14.04.

I use a dark theme I created, and would like GC to use it also.

I read in the FAQ it would be in  home/.gtk..., but that folder doesn't
exist.
Where can I find the theme files, colors, fonts, ..., so I can change
them?

TIA,
Pedro.

Hi,

GnuCash should use your system theme by default.

There is an exception to this: the register pages by default use a
yellow/green theme. This can be disabled in the preferences. However due
to a bug this didn't work well in gnucash versions prior to 2.6.4. So to
get this, you will have to upgrade.

As for the .gtk... - that is not a folder but a (hidden) file. It
doesn't always exist, but you can create it if you want to add custom
theme settings. It shouldn't be necessary however if you have set your
own dark theme as the system theme.

Regards,

Geert

Hi Bert,

It's not really clear to me at which point you are looking for help. Is
your problem you are not sure how to enter the donations in gnucash ? Or
are you looking to print out a receipt and want to change the layout ?

Regards,

Geert

Hi Robert,

The customer tracking in GC is all or nothing - you can't have a "normal"
transaction associate with a customer, if you want that level of detail you
have to go the whole hog and create invoice & post payment....

If you aren't too bothered about tracking the paypal by individual customer,
then you can just go ahead and directly enter a transaction between income &
paypal accounts, but you would have to use the notes field to record the
customer's details.

HTH,
Maf.

Hello all,

I have a Chase credit card that I have hooked up via AQBanking to d/l
transactions to GnuCash and it has been working no problem for a long
time. I recently received an e-mail informing me:

/
/ /*"The first time you access your accounts after November 25*// using
Personal Financial Management (PFM) software such as Quicken//?// or
QuickBooks//?// we will ask you to confirm your identity. //
//
//We'll send instructions to your Chase Online//SM// //Inbox in the
Secure Message Center upon login to your PFM software. You will need to
sign in to chase.com on your computer to view the instructions and
complete the steps."/

When I try to d/l transactions in GnuCash, the login fails now:

Status for signon request: Code 15510, severity "ERROR"
Status for transaction statement request: Signon invalid (Code 15500,
severity "ERROR")
The user cannot signon because he or she entered an invalid user ID or
password.

So, does anyone know how I might "confirm my identify" with GnuCash? I
can find nothing on their website as to how to do this... I will contact
Chase support as well.

This is a general accounting question on how to properly enter a
transaction like this.

I have two gnucash files I maintain. One for personal and one for an
LLC. The LLC is at a point where it needs more funds to purchase a
property, so owners are transferring some of their personal money into
the business account to make a down payment with.

On the business side I will enter this as Equity:Member A:Contributions,
right? Or should this be a liability? On the personal side how should I
account for this? Let's say I'm putting 5,000 of my personal money into
the business. In my personal GnuCash file would this be Asset:Business
Equity or Equity:Business?

I would expect so, but it doesn't. Have a look here. Nautilus on the
left and GC on the right. The previous image is from Evolution contacts.
Maybe something with my theme? Although I just change a few things in
Ambiance.

About the update, I tried 2.6.9, but something didn't work. I think it
has to do with minimum requirements. This is an old laptop, Toshiba
Satellite A200, factory status.
I'll try to look for 2.6.4. But it's not the green/yellow lines that
bother my eyes. It' all the brightness around.  This is a picture of
this message, and how I would like to see GC (more or less):
