Mac OS/X, Gnucash 2.6.5 get quotes very slow

I still haven't resolved the problem, but my theory is that the command line that GnuCash constructs is too long for Windows so gets truncated. The Windows equivalent of beach ball spins for a long time, presumably while the shell is waiting for the rest of the command line, and in the end I have to kill it manually in the shell window and the quotes aren't delivered.

Remember that it works on one of the Macs but not the other, so I doubt it’s a command line length issue, else it would show up on both machines, wouldn’t it?

If I could intercept the created command line somehow, I could just send the command line to verify it works, that would narrow the domain of the problem down. gnc-fq-dump works with a few stock prices. I haven’t tried it with all of the stocks. But again, it works on one Mac but not the other.

It’s possible that Gnucash is making some system call and hanging, because I don’t have an expected service installed on that machine. Maybe strace will reveal the issue.

As I said, it resolves in about a minute. gnc-fq-dump is instantaneous. On my other Mac, get quotes for the same data is about 3 seconds. On this Mac it is 20 times slower.
