I don't see a reply to your question yet, so here is my suggestion: try using a multi-column report, and set it up to use two copies of your report-- one for current, one for previous period.

Subject:Reports: Include second column for previous period

Dear Fellow-Gnucash-Users,

I love my GnuCash, but sometimes I'm surprised a feature I would have
considered normal is not implemented.

I use the balance sheet / income statement reports frequently. What I miss
though, is a second column for values from the previous period. E.g. to
compare this accounting year to the previous one. It is fairly common in
financial publications and is very usefull in actually tracking
developments.

Of course, not being bound be any official publications regime, we in
GnuCash are even at liberty to have more than one previous period. So you
could show the last x months...

...only these reports do not allow this. A "Multicolumn Report" is
essentially just a bunch or reports next to each other - destroying the easy
overview from having the numbers directly next to each other.

There is - to some extent - a workaround, using budgets. Only with budgets
it is also quite tedious, because changing the budget period is slow. Also,
it's layout isn't nearly as nice as the original reports.

So, two questions:
- has someone actually created a custom report that implements the above? If
so, would you be willing to make it available to the community?
- if not but you like the idea, consider giving your support to this idea
via Uservoice:

Thank you in advance,

YeOldHinnerk
