First the (possibly) bad news: gnc uses a perl module called
Finance::Quote to get prices. if you want to add your stuff to it feel
free. Presuming you don't or can't you are limited to the exchanges
Finance::Quote offers for *automated* prices.

The good news is you can record the price of just about anything
manually.

I think this is a good thing because gnc is a crap way to record (say)
daily price data and the graphs needed for trading simply aren't there.

If you want to watch your investments (and possibly even things you
haven't invested in like a market index) do it on-line or in a
spreadsheet or use a specialist investment app is my advice.

Very broadly don't try to make an accounting system a trading desk,
something has to give.

Checking how much your stuff is worth once a week or month, not an issue
unless you have loads of disparate investments in which case I refer you
back up.
