Once I selected my bank then I entered the profile name, user name, etc. It would go through that connection fine and then it have me the option to collect the accounts. I selected that, I it comes back with a request for my password, I enter it and it appears to do something in the background but no accounts are brought into the account tab list. Then it crashes.

I think you mean the “Retrieve Account List” button on the OFX Direct Connect Setup Wizard. That’s a separate program from GnuCash, but the author is in Germany and doesn’t have access to any US bank accounts to test it, so it’s known to have problems. Unfortunately the only bank that I have credentials with doesn’t seem to support the feature so I can’t replicate the crash either. I suggest that you just set up the account information manually.
