It's not entirely clear what problem you are having, or problems if more 
than one.

1) Not seeing, can't get in to the account that is your checkbook? Do 
you possibly mean that you can get into that account but can't see 
transactions for the previous year? What DATE RANGE are you specifying? 
Passing December 31st a specification of "current year" that was 2014 
now becomes 2015.

2) A report of all the transactions for an account is a special case of 
a report of all the transactions of all of the accounts. Run 
"transaction report" specifying the date range you want and selecting 
just the one account instead of all of them. New to gnucash you have to 
try out the various report options.
