That depends on what you really want to do.  I am guessing it is not
really to write checks, because all you need to do that is a checkbook
and a pen.

You need to ask your bank what options they offer for electronic
payments.  Many banks allow you to go online and make payments through
the web page, but now many banks are providing options using
smartphones, for example.  My bank now offers a smartphone ap to get
cash from their ATMs without using an ATM card.
There is a feature in GnuCash to use electronic banking where GnuCash
can transmit the payment instructions to some banks, but my banks do not
allow that, so I do not know how it works.
