Not accumulating splits on invoices; recording individual line item dates in sales

Well I managed to ask an accountant in a round-about way (i.e. without having
to pay for his advice) and he clarified that HMRC consider the invoice date
to be the taxable date (as you suggested), rather than the date the work was
done. Which makes life a little bit easier for me!
