Johannes,
Thanks for the reply. If I understand your suggestion, I put the Carbonite
file *.gnucash.gcm in a Documents folder called "gc from Carbonite". When I
go to GC and hit OPEN, I select the "gc from Carbonite" file and I get a
message that says "can't parse the URL file://C:\Users\Owner\Documents\gc
from Carbonite". I may not be understanding all the terminology. Thanks so
much for your time and patience.
Chuck

I haven't tried this, but perhaps you can set up an Excel spreadsheet
template with a conditional formatting rule for the whole spreadsheet that
formats negative cells in red. Then cut your GnuCash report from HTML and
paste into Excel.

Just an update...just talked to someone in Chase online support, and
apparently the issue has *not* yet been resolved, he anticipates it will be
"several more business days". When it is resolved, we "should" be receiving
a message in our secure inbox on the Chase site.
fyi and for whatever the heck it's worth...

Thanks for that Edward. Have already tried that and it works. Am looking how
to change the actual print report. Have looked at the schema but can't see
where the colour control is.

[1] just to separate out this point in case someone else is
following. It is unclear to me if P is trying to get an existing
Unrealised Loss into a GnuCash book (in which case Equity would seem
the sensible route) or if 2.6.1 has an Unrealised Loss on the
Balance Sheet which has got lost (arf!) in development, in which
case where did it come from as I think in 2.6.9 it would be called
Retained Losses. I'm not sure if we are at version cross-purposes or
not.
Thanks Wm. I have been away for several days - not ignoring the
question, but unable to address it.
I don't think we are at cross-purposes. I started keeping accounts on
a spreadsheet and only went onto GnuCash about 4 years ago. I
continued to keep the spreadsheet but found I had many more errors
there than with the double-entry GnuCash, so I came to use the
spreadsheet to help me conceptualise. I don't know how I managed to
get previous years accounts to reconcile and I don't have time to
explore that now, all I do know is that GnuCash 2.6.1 produces the
following on my balance sheet: (copy & paste)
Liabilities
Liabilities $0.00
Total Liabilities $0.00
Equity
Unrealised gains $0.00
Opening balances $1,534,171.37
Retained Earnings $14,433.67
Unrealized Gains $1,009.14
Total Equity $1,549,614.18
Total Liabilities & Equity $1,549,614.18
My problem is that I have been unable to understand how the Unrealised
Gains figure was derived. I tried entering revaluations manually but
the software wants to treat the entry as a purchase or sale of shares
which it is not.
If I should update my software I would need a source. The version I am
currently using is the latest in the repository.
Thanks for your thoughts. P

Just as a data point, I use Gnucash for a business and iBank for a personal
account. I don't download anything from Chase in Gnucash. However, my
Chase Sapphire card transactions are downloading fine in iBank with no
additional authentication. I did get the email and expect something. Maybe
it is because i'm on the left side of the International Date Line?

Thanks John - I must be getting myopic, the scroll bar seems so obvious when

I recently did a clean install of Windows 10 (upgrade from Win 7). The clean
install was intended to get rid of some persistent problems but has created
a lot more. I did a flash drive of documents so I could reload my old data
into the new system. I also had Geek squad do a backup when they did the new
install just to be sure. Neither one seemed to save GC files. I have
Carbonite and that restore lists a (set of books).gnucash file that should
have what I need to restore my files. I have tried everything I could find
in the Gnucash help and user threads. Brfore GC, I used Money Counts until
Intuit bought them out and killed it. I like Gnucash because it is very
similar. With Money Counts, when I wanted to resore, I just had to set up a
set of books with the name I used before and then I could restore the data.
I have tried that but not had any luck. I hope someone can give me a hint.
I'm not really a computer whiz.
Thanks in advance,
Chuck

Hi Chuck,
what happend when you copy the *.gnucash files to one of your directories
and after this you start GnuCash and try to open one of this files?
