Tax report and TXF

Michael,

Perhaps you made the same mistake I did, which is to highlight an account in the Chart of Accounts, and then expect that account to be the active account when you select Edit-Tax Reporting Options. Unfortunately, the Tax Reporting Options window requires you to re-select an account. Once you do this, the right side of the window will become active.

But your email suggests that you got this far, in that you say that the report provides a list of interest income. If this is in fact the case, then it sounds as if you haven’t actually located the correct entry in the TXF Categories box. The window defaults to Tax Report Only - No TXF Export, since it cannot know which tax line you wish to assign a particular account. The list there is long, to allow for the many lines on IRS forms, so you have to hunt.

Keep in mind also that this window only allows you to assign one account at a time (or at least it did when I set up my tax accounts—this may have changed).

Does any of this help?

David

I am not allowed to select a Schedule or TXF category. The report does provide a list of interest income for the year, but does not assign it to a schedule and does not export any TXF data. If I add a stock dividend account, it is listed by itself, but is all part of the same report. This is my first try at tax reporting. Have I missed a step that enables assignment of income and expenses to schedules?
