I think rather than belittling the volunteers who contribute their
time freely to work on the software (which as you have pointed out is
the best available) you should show some gratitude for the fact that
you have it available at all.  No-one suggests that it is perfect, in
fact the developers are the first to point out the many deficiencies,
but what is worked on is a matter of perceived priorities.  The
developers are obviously going to work on the priorities as they see
them, which apparently are not as you see them.  You say you do not
have the skills to work on it yourself, perhaps you have the money to
pay someone to work on the aspects that you would like improved?

Also note that a number of those who contribute here to try and assist
users are (like myself) users rather than developers.  Perhaps you
could contribute in that way.  Alternatively the documentation is
always in need of improvement, perhaps that is a way for you to help
as it does not require coding skills.  I am sure that demonstrating a
commitment to help with the project would increase the weight that any
suggestions you may have about improving the software would have.
