However note something. You are saying "when you have several different 
files( in the same directory) that you are working with, it gets very 
hard to sort thru all the backups and logs to find them"

But WHY did you choose to place those several files into the same 
directory? If you had created one director per gnucash set of books 
(entity1, entity2, etc. of course using meaningful names) then each set 
of books would only have ITS backups and logs in that directory. Then 
easy to find the right ones.

BTW -- don't consider that "backup" to be an adequate backup of your 
data. Those are just backups between saves. You should (at some 
predetermined interval) be copying each set of gnucash books off your 
computer to somewhere safe, hopefully as part of your generalized backup 
procedure (and not file by file).
