Font problem? Using Gnucash on a Mac Mini

Using Gnucash on my new Mac Mini and I think I'm having a font problem, i.e.
long strings of numbers instead of text. 

getting

<http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/file/n4686339/problem.jpg> 

instead of: Income Statement For Period Covering 27/11/2015 to 27/12/2015

All titles on reports and in preferences have the same problem (see below).
