As a Linux Mint user myself, in general, the easiest and safest way to
install software is through the tools provided by Linux Mint. You can
either use the default add software tool (I think it's just called Add
Software, I'm not booted into Linux at the moment) or you can install
Synaptic. Synaptic is just another graphical front end for installing
software.

If you use apt-get from the command line, it should install dependencies
along with the software you want. If you do, for example:

$ sudo apt-get install thing

then you should get "thing" properly installed.

If you had installed only gnucash from another source, then what Colin
advised will work:

For my own PC, I had installed gnucash from Synaptic. Wayne, is there a
reason you're looking outside of the regular apt / Linux Mint repo? Do
you need a different version? This kind of information will help us help
you :)
