Currently the version in Ubuntu repositories is 2.6.1. GetDeb has 2.6.11, and generally has a new release available within a couple of weeks. 

I initially moved over to getdeb myself when Ubuntu was on the 2.4 release, and getdeb had already moved to 2.6. There were some key differences between these, and I actually needed 2.6, hence my decision. Perhaps there isn't such a difference between 2.6.1 and 2.6.11
