  Did you MAKE data backups? (of ALL of your user data)

How, for example, did you restore your emails (assuming you were using 
email and not webmail). How did you restore that document? That copy of 
your tax return that you filed last year?

Assuming that you DID make backups on some regular basis so can go back 
to just prior to your last backup, are you actually doing the restore 
file by file??? OR, having the same operating system on the new system, 
just copying back a few large directories (file folders). << If you now 
have a new operating system, can be a little more sport as might not use 
the same directory names or put them in the same place >>

In other words, your question "how do I get back my gnucash data" makes 
sense only if you we able to successfully restore all your other user 
data but somehow gnucash data didn't show up. And if you didn't make 
data backups, well you have learned a lesson the hard way.
