In any case, I was concerned more about the reference to 'whining' - 
especially since the original poster had already filed a bug report 
(which has been referenced in the original).  This list is not a place 
for cheap shots.

The workaround is useful, though my purposes differ, and I had already 
developed another way of dealing with it.  I don't know whether the 
patch has been incorporated yet, but look forward with great interest to 
the next version that uses it.
