ph – that is exactly why I chose GnuCash after a lot of research.
I went though the setup process in Mint and there was no “cash” account function so I pursued it no further.

can’t wait to get into my setup.

i run my personal finances and my freelance business in the same account in gnu cash. it works fine. i also track my part-time employment as well. i do set up some fairly defined accounts/ expenses + income that allow me to track income/ expenses by client by year etc. (i confess i have never set up the customer / biz/ invoice system).

it works fine. i get the reports i need and can easily see where i'm at.

i used to use quicken, quick books pro, then mint. this is the best. AND there is this fab community to answer questions.

Since you say that you were frustrated with Quickbooks shortcomings with [the] OS X environment, I should point out that GnuCash is not a native OS X application, so it has a rather ugly look to it and doesn't always behave the way a native program would. If that's important to you then you'll have to look elsewhere. I suggest the App Store.

I agree with you that Gnucash on the Mac doesn't look native at all, and kinda sticks out. However, having said that, I've tried lots of different programs from the app store and elsewhere, and I keep coming back to GnuCash. I haven't seen anything else that has the double entry concept down, or that handles splits with such ease.
