Problems with files and reports

Thank you, Tommy, for the prompt reply and useful suggestions.

1. I am using Windows 10, I am running version 2.6.11 of GnuCash (see attached PDF) and I did load it from SourceForge.
2. The programme is working perfectly if I just add a transaction, save the file, close GnuCash and open it again. I resume where I left off.
3. When I was checking for the version, I right-clicked on the GnuCash short-cut on my desktop and clicked Properties. To my surprise, it said it opened in my OneDrive whereas I’ve been saving files to a GnuCash folder on my hard drive! I need to figure out what is going on there.
4. The file lock problem only arises when I try to run Reports and whatever report I select, GnuCash crashes and file error message ensues.
5. I tried creating a new file with recommended accounts and entered a few transactions. The Report function worked! I’ll do some more work on that.
6. Could the problem be a missing or out of date Windows file? Is there any significance in the first line in the crash message: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error?

Thanks for your help.
Regards

Derrick

Hi -- I don't know the answer but first I'm going to type out your error messages so this will be easier to see in email.

The first image shows the message:

This means that GnuCash did not quit normally and then you opened the file again. When you open it again, as long as there isn't a copy of GnuCash open somewhere else you would normally choose "Open Anyway" to override the lock.

The second image shows the message:
> Runtime Error!
> Program C:\Program Files (x86)\gnucash\bin\gnucash.exe

Something is causing GnuCash to crash. Hopefully it's something simple, such as a buggy old version of GnuCash. There probably isn't anything wrong with your data -- HOWEVER you should right now make sure you have a good backup (copied to a USB drive or something).

I would ask what operating system you're running, but your email says it's Windows 10. If you're running GnuCash on a different system with another version of Windows, please say so.

What version of GnuCash are you running? (The current stable version is 2.6.11.)

Did you download GnuCash using the download links at Gnucash.org, or did you get it from some other place? (The downloads come from sourceforge, but I want to ensure you didn't follow some other link to get it from an unofficial source.)
