That's one approach (and I do create my finished version reports by 
exporting the reports for gnucash and using a general purpose editor 
from there. But one thing people should know is that you have OPTIONS. 
You can't use the report title? "Income Statement" isn't what you need 
for this report, you are a non-profit so it should be "Statement of 
Revenues and Expenses"? Then change it (report title is an option). I 
suggest that anybody new to these reports first do one just to see how 
it appears by default and then go through all the things you can change.
