Elmar,

The contents presented in the Linux Mint software Manager are the
responsibility of the Linux Mint team not the Gnucash developers. It takes
some time after the release of a new version of Mint to check all the new
versions of available software out, their dependencies and package them so
that they install and run without problems. If you need to go to the latest
version of Gnucash you can get it by compiling it from source. This is not
too difficult but you will need to install all the dependencies in the
source code to compie it.

Failing that one has to wait until someone has the time to generate a
downloadable package. If you check the Debian and Ubuntu sites
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=gnucash) for packages for Xenial
Xerus (Ubuntu 16.04), or
Debian(https://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=gnucash for packages for
Jessie(not dead sure of that but it is the latest stable debian release)
these will normally run in Mint unchanged ( but are not guaranteed to by the
Mint team and you may have to change some configuration values and supply
install additional packages to get them to run).

You download the relevant *.deb files then use sudo dpkg -i /filename/.deb
to install them. "sudo apt-get _f install" will usually load any necessary
packages which are not supplied and these are usually notedin the messages
which come up in the original install. You can also use "sudo gdebi
package.deb" to install a package and its dependencies. I think gdebi is
installed by default in Mint but not in Ubuntu. You may need to install it
if you need to use it
