Mac users have a huge problem, I think! Gnucash won't open anything now

Anita,

You might try Apache Open Office from Sourceforge.net <http://sourceforge.net/> as an alternative to Pages, etc.
It is open source (i.e. no cost) and is an Open Document Format application which means it will read/write Microsoft Office documents
