GnuCash import from Quicken 2007 on OSX

I currently use Quicken 2007 for Mac. GnuCash uses a double-entry method,
Quicken uses single.
I have 57 registers, 58 accounts and 28 classes. I have attempted to map the
older structure to a dbl entry structure. Now I need to import multiple
years of transactions into the new structure.
--
I have seen descriptions of python scripts that attempt to aid the
conversion process [my classes need to map to structures between the current
top-level accounts the accounts exported from quicken 2007], but there seem
to be holes in each description I find.
--
I did find mention of qifqif.py and another *.py (sorry - memory erased)
that were needed but the explanation I found did not address how I could
make the structure changes I would need. The text referred to config files
without mentioning a structure or a method to create the config.
--
I currently have GnuCash v2.6.11 and 2.6.15 installed and can use either,
but the instructions do not seem to explain how I might make the conversion
after the import.
--
If I import without class conversion, it appears that all my class data is
ignored and I'm stuck with invalid entries. (e.g. Classes for each vehicle
I've had for years are part of the class hierarchy, but need to be part of
an /Expenses/Autos/<class-based autoID>/<class expense type>/<txn detail> or
an /Assets/Autos/<class-based autoID>/residual_value structure ) Import
leaves only the /Autos/<autoID>/<txn detail> structures.
--
The information I've found in <some_version> how-to guide seems to exist for
GnuCash v2.2.
--
Should I try to install an earlier GnuCash version on OSX 10.10.5 and
attempt to follow the instructions with their seeming skips past issues I'll
have to solve?
--
An idea or a pointer to other resources would be welcomed.
--
Thanks

Dan
