Budget Balance Sheet Report Questions

Larry,
The information about the budget reports is sparse. When I inquired last year about the budget reports so that I could add them to the documentation, I didn't get much information about any of them. If you do get some understanding about how these reports work and how they might be informative, please share back to the group.
As I understand it, these reports use the underlying budget as their data source. So if your budget doesn't include the asset accounts, the report will not have useful information for them. I believe that there is a disconnect on this, insofar as the reports can include accounts that are not in the budget, but without clear meaning in the context of the budget. There may or may not be a bug about this, but I don't recall at this moment.

When I run it, it shows that I have 'Unallocated Assets'. However it shows that I have no Assets in any of my Asset Accounts (each account shows a zero balance). Several actually have significant balances and when you click on the link to them it shows the balance.

What is the Report supposed to do?

What are the 'Unallocated Assests'?

Why does the Report show no Assets in any of my Asset Accounts?

I found one short mention of the report in Wiki. It says that it is a projection report. Since I can find no place to set a date range, I assume the report is for the budget period (in my case Jan-Dec 2017).

Is the Report saying that I am projected to have $362 more Assets than I budgeted? Do I have zero assets because this is my first year in GNUCash and so it does not know what I had at the end of 2016?

My main concern is that I have entered something improperly, if so I want to correct it before I get to far along.

Thanks for your help,

Larry
