I have searched through the gnucash bug reports because I remembered this has 
been reported before. I found this:

While that bug describes an input problem in the description field the wrong 
behavior is fairly similar. The bug also provides a potential solution which 
involves getting ibus properly configured (which is completely outside of the 
gnucash scope). One comment suggests on debian this is only a partial solution 
though.

I'd encourage those of you who are running on linux the check if this helps 
you. On Mac I have no idea what to suggest unfortunately.
