Upgrading from 2.2.9 to 2.6.15?

I'm a long time GnuCash user (Windows 10, XML database).  I've two questions
and haven't been able to find the answers.

1. Is upgrading to the newer version simply a matter of running the
gnucash-2.6.15-setup.exe file?  (after doing backups )  No needed manual
file conversions, etc.?

2. Is it worthwhile to consider changing from the XML database to mySQL?
