Does GC drop things from the data base?

Dear Friends,

I recently had an experience wherein I opened what I thought was my most recent saved file only to discover that some data that I had entered was missing.

Is it possible that I opened the wrong file by mistake?  I tend to move things around to suit my filing system and maybe that happened, but I want to know if things go missing….

How does one access information in a log file, and then retrieve it?
