[GNC] Column widths again

Nope, that “feature” is still intact. The Tutorial & Concepts Guide notes this behavior at 2.3.3. 

To date, no developer has felt the need to change the behavior of the Description column, as idiosyncratic as it may be. Personally, I’d welcome a change to make this column behave as most users have come to expect, but I do not have the programming ability to dig into the code base to fix it.
