Is GnuCash installed from apt or the Software manager or is it a flatpak or
snap installation?. The latter have had some problems with having access to
the system from within the flatpak environment which you will find in the
recent (August-November 18) archives.

If all else fails you could download and build v 3.3. The notes in the wiki
for building on Linux are fairly complete at the moment.
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/Building_On_Linux. The main Linux notes were
rewritten and tested on Linux Mint 19/Ubuntu 18.04. Once all the
dependencies are installed it is generally fairly easy to build. There is a
script attached which will install the development tools and dependecies for
V3.3.  gnucash-development-depndency-setup.sh
<http://gnucash.1415818.n4.nabble.com/file/t375329/gnucash-development-depndency-setup.sh>
. You will have to enter your password to grant it sudo privileges and
answer "y" or yes to any questions it throws up. I used it to setup to build
GnuCash on Linux Mint 19 yesterday and it worked like a charm. Much easier
than copying and pasting commands from the wiki.
