[GNC] Saving in GnuCash painfully slow: what can I do?

This bug report https://bugs.gnucash.org/show_bug.cgi?id=795804 addresses
Release 3.2 with HiDPI monitors in Windows 10 cases. Also has there been
any attempt to isolate the effect of having reports open?
I also recall that there was a bug report suggesting that having many
backup files in the same folder also slowed down file saves. Is that true,
and if so does it apply to all OS'es and current and older releases?
Is there any bug report addressing slow response in Linux either with HiDPI
monitors or otherwise?
