For synchroniszation on Linux and Windows and MacOSX (via Macports) you might like to try the Unison File Synchronizer.
I sync my files between several systems with this and find it pretty painless once it is initially setup. Requires
setting up SSH certificates but that is not too hard and can be run as a cron job to automate the process
