what you are not seeing is that when you are IN the ledger account
Imbalance you cannot change THAT account << not just true for Imbalance,
true for any account, can't change the one you are in >> That's why "a"
told you to go to the OTHER account involved in the transaction, from
where you can change Imbalance to the account it should be.

That's why "b" told you about another option. When you hit "split" you
have entered "journal mode" and that will allow you to change any of the
accounts involved in the transaction.

I notice you used the term "post" which to me says that you might have
learned in the old days, enter transactions into the journal and then
post to the ledger accounts affected. Gnucash is providing a short cut
mode of entry for transactions that affect only two accounts, sort of
like "cashbook" accounting << a shortcut commonly used in the old days
for the most commonly referenced accounts and transactions between them
 >> The point here is that a short cut is most useful if you are having
no trouble using it. But if familiar with the old way "enter first in
journal" and new to gnucash, you might use "journal view" for a while.
OR any time like this where you have gotten confused.

Similarly, if confused by the "user friendly" column headings like
"transfer" "rebate" etc. (which change depending on the sort of account)
you can tell gnucash to switch to "formal" and then will always be debit
on left, credit on right,
