So, you typed in an incorrectly formatted expression and it was 
rejected. What did you expect?

Gnucash, thankfully, allows one to input arithmetic expressions and it 
will evaluate them to provide the desired value. For example, you could 
enter "123 / 2" and the result of that calculation, 61.50, will be put 
in the field. What it will not do is try to interpret garbage or 
malformed expressions. You can write "two thousand and 13/100" on the 
face of a check, but Gnucash isn't going to understand that archaic 
expression and is going to give you an error in response.
