I think we should keep in mind that there are two (rather different)
meanings for which the term "saved reports" can be applied.
a) Our regular repeated reports. We might have a tab left open for these
(for rerunning them) but have a series going back into the past of the
same report but previous running of it. For example, Balance Sheet (as
of date X, as of date Y, as of date Z, etc.)
b) Reports which I will call special. We have made modifications to
exclude accounts, etc. Of course these too might have a series of
previous running of them (as in "a")
For case "a", after running (for date W) I would be saving BUT not
within gnucash. In other words, after running I would export it. I would
have a directory (folder) with a name like "saved reports" and within
that folders (directories) like "Balance Sheets", "Revenue Statements",
etc, So that I could tell them apart, would make date part of the file
name (so might be BalanceSheet20241115 if run today). So yes you would
be moving a directory like that when moving to a new computer, but not
as part of moving gnucash but as part of moving ALL data directories.
For case "b", besides saving specific runs of a report like above I
would want a saved version within gnucash if not used so often as to
deserve an open tab. That is to save all those modifications, what
accounts included, etc.
In other words, I would save WITHIN gnucash ONE version of each report I
use and save outside of gnucash previous runs of each of these reports.
