[GNC] Account Register not Populating

Michael D Novac,
You make a very good point with your illustration point 'a'.
However, for your point 'b', GnuCash has a quirk that any custom report
configurations that the user saved under the menu Reports > Saved Report
Configurations are not actually stored in the main data file, but in a
separate location where other 'User' stuff is saved, such as which register
windows and report windows were open as of the last time that particular
GnuCash data file was actually closed using File > Quit or by clicking on
the "X' icon in the upper right corner of the GnuCash window and the widths
of most of the columns [except Description] are in those register windows
and the specific options selected in those open report windows. User
preferences saved under Edit > Preferences also are not in the data file.
Note that Search windows disappear and are not saved when GnuCash is shut
down.
Also, as R Losey noted earlier, the locations of most of those other 'user'
files is nicely shown in the 'About' window.. The only problem I have with
that is that it works nicely in Linux, but in Windows 10 I was unable to
find them there. I think one needs to check the page [
https://wiki.gnucash.org/wiki/FAQ#Questions_about_Backups] for information
relating to Windows 10/11 installations.
Lastly, I must offer the disclaimer that I only know about using the
[compressed or uncompressed]XML data file format, but not either of the two
database file formats that may also be used.
