Phyllis,

It is good practice to keep each individual set of books in its own
folder/directory which will avoid accidentally deleting the file
backups and logs for another set of books.

It should be possible to create a shortcut for each set of books on
your desktop/taskbar/menu which will open the specific file for that st
of books. Google's AI details a procedure for doing this on Windows

1. Desktop Shortcut:
Create a shortcut: Right-click on your desktop and select "New" ->
"Shortcut".
Enter the command: In the shortcut's target field, enter the path to
the GnuCash executable followed by the path to your GnuCash file. For
example:
Code

    "C:\Program Files\GnuCash\bin\gnucash.exe"
"C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My GnuCash Files\mydata.gnucash"

If your are on Linux the procedure is somewhat similar. In Linux Mint
for example you can create a Menu entry for each file specifying the
command and path to the file in the Menu editor as "gnucash <path to
file>". Then you can simply slect which set of books to open
